Nice HDR-SR12 Review

As you know SR12 is the same as SR11 but with bigger HDD. So maybe you will find this interesting, it compares camera with its counterparts from Canon, JVC and Panasonic.

Experience with AVCHD

This is a link to a Lori Grunin (crave) who had make some comentaries related to AVCHD file format.

My personal experience with this file format wasn't so bad, I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 8.0b and is working fine. The problem is that it took about 20times more to convert a file, i actually I need a better hardware.

Making the good white balance

The light in different situations can change how the colors looks like.

How you do it ??? First find a white area in around (if you don't have it, experienced people carry with them a white thing to focus on it - a paper for example).

Look through you camera, if it isn't white, than the Auto Balance is not doing the right thing.
- Go to options, in tab 3, you have "White Balance"
- Select One Push, than while focusing and zooming on white spot (so is everything on camera) press the sign under.

Copying movies

Hi,

My Sony camera comes without a video processing software (like Vegas to say).
With Picture Motion Browser you can only copy AVCHD files, make lower quality MPEG or AVI, or make HD DVD and Data DVD.

I discovered when making data DVD you can convert from AVCHD to AVI (WMV 9) at the same quality.

The advantage of doing this is that AVI is recognised by all players.
Second it seems that WMV is smaller than the AVCHD file.

The bad thing is that you can do this only using a DVD drive on a DVD disk.

The solution:
- Use the following software: Virtual CD
- And use the Virtual Burner facility of it.
- Then from PMB choose Data Disk creation and use the specific Virtual DVD.

Pros:

  • Easy
  • Cheap (it is only 40$)
  • Quick
  • Good for storage of raw data in a standard format.
Cons:
  • A little difficult to find out all the clicks you have to make in Virtual CD
  • It isn't a video editing software

The choice!

As the title could inspire you, my choice for the camera was for Sony Handycam HDR-SR11 .

Why did I choose this ??? The following reasons:
1. It is a HDD based camera - so I don't have to work with a lot of tapes or DVD-s, just camera.
2. It is "Hybrid" as it can record movies on the HDD, but also on the memorystick.
3. I've made alot of studies on the net, and the competitors from Canon and JVC are at this moment evaluated lower.
4. It's Full HD (1920x1080), so my baby when will be grown up, he can look at his movies with good qualities.

What has more but i don't think is so usefull:
1. Face detection and auto focus on it (it is funny if you play from camera, that you can choose a face and automatically go to that part of the movie).
2. Photo high quality (but actually if you make photos while recording the quality will be lower than the 10MP, they like to say).

Now the rest of the blog will be related to how to shot and tips & tricks I've discovered.
